A winter wedding under the glacier, ravens, hoar frost and elegance.

November in Iceland is the month where winter sets in. The air is chill, the ground is frozen and the days become shorter. On this particular November morning the low hanging winter sun illuminated the snow caped mountains, glittered on the frozen grass and added a splash of colour to the frozen, still landscapes on the Snæfellesnes Peninsula. The silence was only broken by the occasional croak of the ravens.

We have become a household name at hotel Búðir after shooting countless weddings there over the past few years and it’s always a joy to come back. Seeing the otherworldly landscapes in different seasons, the grassy fields around the hotel changing from a sea of green in summer to desert browns and yellows in the fall and eventually snow covering everything in white makes each visit unique.

“They managed to gather around them the cream of the crop of Icelandic wedding vendors to create the perfect setting for them and their incredibly stylish group of guests to celebrate their love and life together.”

Now on to the real stars of this post, Chris & Hattie. What a pair of absolute legends. They planned their destination winter wedding on a remote peninsula in Iceland down to the smallest detail yet managed to keep the whole mood so stress free and easy going. They managed to gather around them the cream of the crop of Icelandic wedding vendors to create the perfect setting for them and their incredibly stylish group of guests to celebrate their love and life together.

From the moment we stepped into the hotel at daybreak and got introduced to everybody we felt like we were surrounded by long time friends and that feeling only strengthened as the day went on. After witnessing pastor Arnaldur’s heartfelt, ceremonial rituals during the ceremony, including incense smoke, candles, singing and bells we all felt like we were a part of something bigger.

Everyone then got the chance to gorge themselves on local fish for dinner, cake for desert and with copious amounts of champagne the party started. And boy, do these book nerds know how to party!

When we were driving back home late at night the sky suddenly erupted in green, with the northern lights dancing across the sky and we are pretty sure the guests still standing at the party where all gathered down by the dock by the hotel to marvel at the show in their parkas.
