Hvalfjörður Engagement // Elen & Jody

Hvalfjörður Engagement // Elen & Jody

It was a dark and moody winter’s day when we set out to explore the forgotten fjord, Hvalfjörður, with Elen & Jody. On the short journey from Reykjavík we drove through pouring rain and strong gusts of wind but when we reached our destination in the valley at the bottom of the fjord the wind died down and the rain turned into a drizzle.

We learned a long time ago that there is no use in getting annoyed by the weather you just have to embrace what ever the weather gods throw your way and work with it. And that brings us back to Belinda and Terry. They embraced all the weather they got on their wedding day and they got it all. From gale force winds and rain up in the mountains to pockets of calm down by the ocean.

We headed out just before sunset to get the best light and made a quick stop by a lake with crazy rock formations that must have been trolls in their past life, then we drove past lava fields and sulphur smelling hot springs and finally found our selves driving along a sketchy road we had never been down before.

We hiked a hill to check out a waterfall, jumped on some rocks at the beach, ate fish soup at the tiniest of restaurants and finally played in some puddles at sunset.

These two beautiful human beings with their perfect hair just got married a few days ago in the mountains in West Virginia. But in the beginning of this year we had the honor of driving them to the airport in Iceland.

Birta suggested we would come to this place on the north coast we had never been to before and knew nothing about, to shoot her and Jón Atli's story. So we packed our camera gear in to our small car and drove into the unknown, not having a clue what to expect.
